You Can Do It All, IF You Do This Every Morning

Reviving Morning Routine: (30 Minutes)

  • Hydrate
  • Breathe
  • Stretch
  • Fuel
  • Energize

THE ROUTINE

1) Drink 2 Glasses of Water
A German study found that drinking 2 glasses of cold water right when you wake up boosts your metabolism by 24% for the next hour and a half. But, the metabolism boost isn’t the only benefit – drinking water right when you wake up helps your body recharge it’s fluid levels and flush out yucky toxins.

2) Stretch It Out
Yoga is one of the best ways to wake up your body in the morning.  This basic yoga sequence on my pin board, The Fit Life, is great way to gently activate muscles and flush out toxins in your muscles – the twists in these poses help get rid of the bad in your body and make room for the good! Could there be a better way to start your day?

3) One Minute of Breath of Fire
What is Breath of Fire? A kundalini yoga technique that refreshes your nervous system, oxygenates your blood, pushes out toxin deposits in your lungs, and improves the digestive system by pumping your diaphragm, giving your organs a nice internal massage. 

Why should this be in your morning routine? When you refresh your nervous system it kills any feelings of morning (I’m late!) anxiety & morning moodiness, and the increased oxygen levels in your blood help you feel lighter and more peaceful (think post-yoga glowy feeling).

Fun Tip: When you do this, imagine that you are one of the dragons in Game of Thrones.

4) Eat an Anti-oxidant & Vitamin Rich Breakfast
What is one of the best things to eat for breakfast? Papaya. This fruit is filled with over 30 essential nutrients and enzymes needed for your body’s daily functions. The enzymes in papaya are great at breaking down larger proteins and un-clumping toxins in your body.

It’s the best thing to hit your stomach in the morning because its enzymes aid in digestion and work with your stomach and intestines to digest food more easily. This fruit is a great way to boost your immune system and keep you energized throughout the morning.

Added benefit? Regular consumption of papaya makes your skin beautiful.

5) Energize with Turmeric
Swap out your morning coffee with a hot cup of what I call Turmeric Tea. Turmeric is a member of the ginger family, and works to restore your body with its strong anti-inflmmatory, antioxidant, anti-cancer and anti-microbial properties. Turmeric purifies your blood, counteracts acne and other skin imbalances, and stimulates healthy liver function.

Turmeric Tea Recipe:
1 Cup Hot Water

½ Teaspoon Turmeric Powder
                      (or freshly grated turmeric)
1 Teaspoon Honey
1 Slice of Lemon
¼ Teaspoon Freshly Ground Ginger
1 Cardamom Pod

 

This result of drinking this daily? Your energy increases, your metabolism gets a jolt, your wounds heal faster, and your skin has a more lively appearance (as opposed to coffee which over time makes skin look tired and dull, causes energy crashes, and drains your body of vital fluids).
